SH146 Intersection Safety Improvements

The City of Seabrook's Public Safety Team is actively communicating with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) regarding the ongoing safety concerns at the intersection of SH 146 and Repsdorph / E. Meyer. Since contractors have fully opened the intersection, we have observed numerous accidents due to motorists failing to obey traffic signals and warnings.

In an effort to bring more awareness to the traffic signals at the intersection, and reduce the number of accidents, TxDOT will be implementing the following:

🚦 YELLOW FLASHING BEACONS will be installed on Northbound and Southbound SH 146 frontage roads prior to approaching the traffic light(s). TxDOT says this will be complete by Friday of this week (Sept. 29)

🚦 PERMANENT TRAFFIC LIGHTS installed on the new white mast arms should be turned on and operational next week according to TxDOT and the temporary string traffic lights removed.

Additional efforts were implemented earlier this year:

🚦 Digital message boards along the southbound corridor prior to the intersection.

🚦 Speed display sign to bring awareness to the speed of motorists approaching the intersection.

🚦 Installation of rumble strips giving motorists an audible alert to slow down when approaching the intersection.

🚦 Repainting of the "stop bars" in a staggered configuration to allow the far lanes to view oncoming frontage road traffic more easily.

🚦 Scheduling expedited for installation of permanent traffic control mast arms and lights.

In addition to these safety improvements, the Seabrook Police Department has and will continue to increase enforcement in this area.

Please do your part in keeping this intersection safe by slowing down when approaching and always adhering to traffic signals.
