TxDOT Public Meeting regarding SH 146 Expansion

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold a public meeting regarding the proposed roadway improvements to State Highway (SH) 146 from Red Bluff Road to Farm-to-Market (FM) 518, in Harris and Galveston Counties. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at James F. Bay Elementary, 1502 Bayport Boulevard in Seabrook. The meeting will be held in an open house format from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The purpose of the Public Meeting is to present updates to the proposed project to the public and to receive comments. The project proposes to widen SH 146 from Red Bluff Road in Harris County to FM 518 in Galveston County. The proposed project consists of widening and restructuring the existing four-lane divided roadway facility to a six- to twelve-lane express lane over Clear Creek. The purpose of the proposed project is to reduce congestion and enhance safety by accommodating traffic volumes especially during commute periods, accommodate traffic due to competing uses (i.e. local traffic and through-traffic), accommodate hurricane and emergency evacuation options, and upgrade roadway and bridge designs to current standards. The proposed improvements would potentially require additional right-of-way including residential and commercial displacements.

Maps showing the proposed project’s location and design drawings will be available for review at the Public Meeting. All interested citizens are invited to attend this Public Meeting. Written comments from the public regarding this project are requested and may be presented for a period of ten (10) business days following the meeting. Written comments may be submitted either in person or by mail to the TxDOT District Office, Director of Project Development, P.O. Box 1386, Houston, Texas 77251. Written comments must be postmarked or emailed to by June 11, 2015, to be included in the Public Meeting Summary.

While this meeting is not hosted by the City of Seabrook, the city does encourage residents and businesses to attend the meeting if they would like to give public comment to TxDOT. If you have general questions or concerns regarding the proposed project, you may contact TxDOT by calling (713) 802-5269.
